Long-legged Waders

This search function groups species by taxonomic family, listing all species in each of their families together with their relatives. Once a family is selected, you can order the species listed by first, last, or scientific name.
These are medium to large-sized water birds with long legs adapted for wading in fresh or salt water. Most of these species, such as herons, egrets, cranes, ibises, spoonbills, and flamingos, are conspicuously patterned, and many are entirely white. Others are pink, but some have concealing colors that make them difficult to detect.
